Are You a Rich Thinking Coach Or a Poor One?

By Jane Rogers

Question: What's the difference between two coaches, both running their own coaching business to the same market, but one is doing spectacularly well financially and the other is just doing OK? Answer: The first one is using their mindset FOR them, and the other is using their mindset AGAINST them. So how do you use your mind for you? First of all, read these statements and see if any of them apply to you:

o I'll never get any more clients
o Help, I need more clients!
o It's a struggle to find the right people to work with
o I haven't got enough time
o There's so much to do I'll never get it all done
o Money always seems to elude me
o I can't put my prices up, the market won't stand it
o I might lose clients if I put my prices up
o The reason I'm not more successful is because I have too many other things to do (or any other reason for that matter)
o When it comes to money, I have to play it safe as I have responsibilities
o I feel guilty if I spend money on myself
o This is all too much for me, I just can't handle it
o I know all about that

If you identify with any of these, then you're being a poor thinker in that area. Use the fact you've pinpointed this poor thought as a way to transform your thinking into rich thoughts. Turn the sentence around. So for instance, the above would become:

o I attract new clients whenever I want them
o New clients find me whenever I need them
o I easily find the right people to work with
o I've got plenty of time
o I get everything done easily and in plenty of time
o Money is attracted to me like bees to a honeypot
o I put my prices up and even more clients come to me
o I put up my prices and feel proud of my courage in doing so
o I'm successful because I choose to focus on my priorities
o I take educated financial risks, while bringing in plenty of money to cover my responsibilities
o I love spending money on myself
o I am bigger than any problems that come my way
o I am interested in constantly learning and growing

It's important to notice how these statements are constructed, ie in the present tense, positive, first person etc. It takes practice to construct these as you want them, but right now, notice if you react against any of the above ones. That means notice if you negate them with a sentence in your head, or notice how your body feels in response to the Rich Thought. Because if you have a reaction, then regardless of whether you identified with it's opposite in the first list, you are thinking poorly in that area.

It's this kind of thing that trips you up on the journey of success.

So what can you do about it?

1. Learn to become an expert in listening to yourself, and choosing what to think as opposed to thinking by default.
2. Dig out the poor thoughts by examining your behaviour around your business
3. Notice how your body feels in relation to the business actions you are taking
4. Choose to think rich, and bring your feelings and actions in line with that

For instance, if you realise that you are consistently putting off putting your prices up, then take some time out to focus on why that is. Pay attention to your thoughts and feelings about what raising your prices means. Identify the poor thinking involved, and change it round to Rich Thinking. Practice telling clients how much you charge until you get to feel 100% comfortable with your new prices. Then and only then, take the action required to change your prices. And if you still don't do it, then ask yourself what else is still in the way. Otherwise, just do it!

If you work with your thoughts like this I can guarantee your thinking will change over time. You'll be using your mind FOR you instead of AGAINST you, and consequently become more successful in every area of your life, including your business life. What poor thought can you change today to start that process?
